Tomatis® Listening Test
Improved listening has a positive impact on learning capacity as well as self-regulation, attention, social skills and quality of life.
Careful analysis of an individual’s listening profile can help pinpoint ‘blocks’ to learning, working memory and emotional self-regulation.
The Tomatis® Listening Test is not the same as a traditional hearing test. The listening test assesses an individual’s ‘listening availability’ for everyday situations e.g. in a classroom, or in social situations with background noise such as a dinner party.
Listening distortions can occur for many reasons: repeated past ear infections/glue ear, congestion/allergies, and trauma. Individuals with listening distortions may experience language, processing and memory difficulties, or exhibit behaviours and personality traits that affect daily life.
The Sound Teacher will share and explain all results. The listening test is a valuable tool to guide personalised coaching, or customise a listening therapy package.
What makes the Tomatis® method so beneficial?
Sound is transmitted via bone conduction caused by vibration in the upper part of the skull, and by air conduction passing through the ear. Tomatis® equipment facilitates this simultaneous transmission of sound to stimulate the entire inner ear. That means all parts of the ear involved in auditory and motor functions, balance and even emotional state are awakened.
Why not just listen to soothing music?
The unique Tomatis® technology modulates music and sounds to create a sound perception contrast. This activity is much like a gymnastics exercise, or HIIT workout for the ear! Repeating the listening for the duration of an intensive session (typically 14 days) leads to improved functioning of the ear muscles. The sensory sound messages to the brain are refined and can result in remarkable progress.
