Tomatis® Listening Test (TLT®)

The unique listening assessment tool from Tomatis®.

The Sound Teacher can offer this option for screening individuals aged 6 years+.

Disruption in sound processing links to an individual’s coping strategies at all ages and stages of life.

Careful analysis of an individual’s listening profile can help pinpoint ‘blocks’ to learning, working memory and self-regulation.

The Tomatis® Listening Test is a brilliant tool - exclusive to Tomatis® practitioners. It can offer detailed information and reassurance about an individual's sound processing. Clients can use this valuable information to get help and support moving forwards, whatever the challenges.

When to consider a Tomatis® Listening Test (TLT®)

A listening test (for ages 6+) is recommended if listening distortions or acute listening sensitivity is suspected.

Listening distortions are likely if the following challenges are observed in everyday life:

  • Proprioception (awareness of own body in space), balance and control, core strength, bilateral integration, motor skills.

  • Speech production, accuracy of speech sounds and speech prosody (controlling the rhythm, intonation and volume of speech).

  • Listening in noisy backgrounds.

  • Retained primitive reflexes: Moro reflex (especially ‘fight or flight’ reactions), ATNR, TLR, STNR and more.

  • Eyes: visual tracking for reading (book) or from classroom whiteboard (far) to desk (near), eye contact and facial expression.

  • Emotional regulation, attention (deficit, hyperactivity or inattentive) and memory.

Screening using the TLT® typically takes ~1 hour and needs to be done in person.
